The New York Times on Self Publishing (Part 2)
To attack his market, one self-publisher, Gregory Godek, and his wife, are roaming the country on a two-year tour to hawk his book, which sold more than one million copies over six years. He is constantly scouting for an opportunity to sell. He is on the Internet. He is at trade conferences. He gets bookings on radio and television programs. Mr. Godek estimated that in his best year he grossed more than $1 million. Self-publishers earn 45 percent of a book's cover price, compared with the 6 percent that authors collect from mainstream publishers.
